Tomahawk merit badges.

2015

Families, here are the documents that we will use to select merit badges for each scout at Camp Tomahawk this summer.  Note that there are some significant changes from last year’s documents: don’t use the old ones.  Please use this and the two other documents.  The document entitled “INDIVIDUAL SCOUT MERIT BADGE PLAN” is the Scout’s sheet to use in choosing his merit badges.  The document entitled “MERIT BADGE PLANNING” gives information that the scout will use in making his choices.

  1. Print out a copy of the Individual Scout Merit Badge Plan. Hand print the scout’s information on the two appropriate lines. (2016 forms pending)

  2. Refer to the page labeled “Merit Badge Information” for necessary background information. Consider these data when selecting merit badges:

The sheet provides “course” information (prerequisites, costs etc). This two-page section is the “no surprises” section.  If there is a cost associated with a merit badge, it will be charged to the troop and the scout will be expected to “settle up” at the end of the week.  The Troop usually covers the cost of first-year Merit Badges such as Leatherwork and/or Woodcarving.  See Mr. Johnson for costs for Rifle and Shotgun Shooting badges.  Note that any requirements listed in the Prerequisites column need to be completed outside of Tomahawk, either before we go or after we return.  A good internet site to visit to review MB requirements is usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/list.asp.

  1. Choose one merit badge for each of the four blocks.  Note that some badges fill two blocks.  When selecting a badge that fills two blocks, the scout should choose only three badges.

  2. Each scout should bring any questions he may have to any of the Scoutmasters at any Troop 9 meeting.

  3. Bring the competed merit badge plan to a Troop meeting and give the form to Mr. Judge Dave Johnson.

Note: some of the limited space merit badges fill early and leave little chance for a boy to clear the waiting list. The sooner we can sign a boy up for these badges, the better chance he has of being able to be in the group.
